Pull it all together for a polished professional look!
When it comes to decorating our spaces, we tend to spend our time and money on the practical things – beds, sofas, tables, and chairs, but a home with nothing unifying its spaces can feel disjointed or even uncomfortable to be in.
See how the repeated use of one essential item helped to unify three spaces. Besides, wasn’t it Plato that said “There is no harm in repeating a good thing”?
Bedroom
OUR GOAL… Pull together three rooms, the Bedroom, Sitting Room, and Bath, using the same style rug. A common item is a great way to create consistency not only when decorating a master suite, but in an entire home as well. You don’t have to use the same rug like we did; you can use similar style rugs as long as they make sense together. Just steer clear of going too wild (we’re not counting a zebra rug as too wild) and colorful. Neutral colors and natural fibers are great options for most spaces.
Sitting Room
The nice thing about updating these spaces using the same zebra rug to unify the rooms was that it was simple and relatively inexpensive. You can do the same thing.
Here’s How – Use the Tweak process like we did for these spaces. This means you first shop in your home and use furniture and accessories you already have. Then, decide on that one, unifying new item that you want to bring continuity to your spaces. Simply multiply it by the number of rooms and “BAM” you’re done! As a result, the new item will make your things look fresh and new!
Bath
We were so inspired by the vintage bath tub, we went to the attic to find some more vintage items. The old space heater and side table were the perfect addition! BUT – the unifying item that effectively brought the entire bath together, creating a sense of rhythm, was the zebra rug!
The are other ways to unify your spaces…
Here Are 4 More Ways to Create Unity In Your Home

- Lighting
- Window Treatments
Depending upon your budget, these techniques offer you a wide range of costs to choose from.
It’s nice to see it all come together. We also used the same light fixture to replace the non-matching ceiling fans to unify the bedroom and sitting room. After all, Chandeliers are Ceiling Jewelry… Lose the Fans!!!
